Projects in HeatAlgo: creating, client details, searching and deleting

What a project is, how to create one, what client details do, how to search projects with Ctrl+K, what the project view shows and how to delete one.

Przemysław Paziewski

Founder of HeatAlgo

A project is the basic unit of work in HeatAlgo: one building, one job, one client. A project holds all four calculation modules, the client form and the conversations with the Algo assistant, and one report unlocks the whole project at once. This article describes how to create, describe, find and delete projects.

New project

You create a new project from several places:

  • the "New project" button on the Start page,
  • the plus next to "Projects" in the side menu,
  • the project search dialog (Ctrl+K, Cmd+K on a Mac) - type a name and the list offers "Create project "name"",
  • by asking the Algo assistant, e.g. "create a project Smith, Kraków".

The "New project" form has three fields. Only the project name is required (e.g. "Smith renovation"). The client's full name and the property address are optional - they go on the title page of the PDF reports, and without a client name the address does not appear on the report. After "Create project" the project view opens with the modules and tools.

The project view

The project view ("Project overview" in the side menu) is where you enter the modules and manage the whole. It contains:

  • a header with the name, client details and creation date, and the "Edit details" button - it changes the name, client and address,
  • "Next steps" - hints on what is worth doing: add the client's details, send the client form, use Algo,
  • "Calculations" - the four modules with when each was last saved or that it has not started yet; an "Open" or "Start" button,
  • "Client data" - the client form card with its current state,
  • "Client report" - the unlock card: "This project is in preview" with the unlock button, or after unlocking the date until which export works,
  • the "Algo AI" card - opens a conversation about this project,
  • "More actions" - including editing and deleting the project.

The modules in one project share data: the heat load calculation feeds pump sizing, underfloor heating and ventilation, and the client form feeds all four. How that works is in data flows between modules.

The Start page shows recently edited projects with a "Continue" button, which opens the module you last worked in. The full list is in the side menu under "Projects" - each project expands to its modules, and "All projects" leads to the whole list ordered by last edit.

The fastest way to a specific project is Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac). It opens the "Projects" dialog with a "Search projects" field: you type part of the name, pick the project with the arrow keys and open it with Enter. Each result shows whether the project is "Unlocked" or "Not unlocked". When the typed name matches no project, the dialog offers to create a new one with that name.

Projects can also be opened from a conversation with Algo - when asked for the project list, the assistant puts it in the conversation, and a click opens the project.

Editing project details

You change the name, client and address in the project view with "Edit details". The change immediately covers report covers generated later; PDFs downloaded earlier stay unchanged. Algo can also rename a project at your request - a confirmation with an "Undo" button stays in the conversation.

Deleting a project

You delete a project from its view: open "More actions", pick "Delete project" and confirm in the "Delete project" dialog. Deletion removes all project data - the heat load calculation, pump sizing, underfloor heating and ventilation, the client form and uploaded floor plans. This cannot be undone from the app, so download the PDFs you need before deleting. A deleted project is marked as deleted and purged for good within 90 days - during that time you can ask for it back: write to us from the account menu ("Email us") with the project name.

One exception: when the Algo assistant deletes a project at your request, the conversation shows "I deleted this project. It can be restored" with a "Restore" button.

Deleting a project does not return the credit spent on it.

One account, one person

A HeatAlgo account is for one person: only the person signed in to it sees and edits its projects. There is no sharing a project with another account and no moving a project between accounts - a second installer or a colleague creates their own free account and keeps their projects there. If you run a company with several people, see the for companies page - on the Company plan we create accounts for your staff and agree invoicing on your process.

How many projects can I have

There is no limit on the number of projects, on a free account or in a subscription. All projects stay on the account regardless of the plan - the preview, calculations and history do not disappear, and unlocking concerns only full results and PDFs. More in what is free and what a report unlocks.

Data from a previous session

If after signing in you see the banner "You have data from a previous session", the app found data saved locally in this browser from before projects moved to the cloud. "Yes, create project" saves it as a new project on the account (named "Project from date" by default), and "No, discard data" drops it for good.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a new project in HeatAlgo?

Click "New project" on the Start page or the plus next to "Projects" in the side menu, enter the project name (the only required field), optionally the client's full name and the property address, and confirm with "Create project". You can also create a project from the search dialog (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) by typing a name, or ask the Algo assistant to do it.

Where do I enter the client name and address so they appear on the report cover?

The client's full name and the property address go on the cover, that is the title page, of the PDF reports from every module. Without a client name the address does not appear on the report. You edit these details at any time with "Edit details" in the project view.

How do I find a project quickly?

Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac) - the "Projects" dialog opens with a "Search projects" field. Type part of the name and pick the project from the list; each one shows whether it is unlocked. All projects are also in the side menu under "Projects" and under "All projects".

How do I delete a project, and can it be undone?

In the project view open "More actions", pick "Delete project" and confirm. Deletion removes all project data from every module (heat load, pump, underfloor, ventilation) and cannot be undone from the app. The exception: when the Algo assistant deleted a project at your request, a "Restore" button stays in the conversation.

Can I have several projects for one client?

Yes, you can have any number of projects. Each project is one building and one job: the modules in a project share the client, the address and the input data, and one report unlocks the whole project. For a second house of the same client, create a second project.

What does the banner "You have data from a previous session" mean?

The app found unsaved data in the browser from before projects moved to the cloud. Choose "Yes, create project" to save it as a new project on your account, or "No, discard data" to drop it.

I deleted a project by mistake - can it be recovered?

Yes, for 90 days. A deleted project is marked as deleted and purged for good only after that time. Write to us from the account menu ("Email us") with the project name and we restore it. If Algo deleted the project at your request, the conversation has a "Restore" button right there.

Can I share a project with a colleague or work as two people on one account?

No. An account is for one person, and a project cannot be shared with another account or moved to one. A colleague creates their own free account. For companies with several people there is the Company plan with accounts for staff - details on the for companies page.
