Radiant floor heating from a floor plan: AI draws the sections and loops

Upload a floor plan as PDF, PNG, JPG, HEIC, DWG or DXF, set the scale, and HeatAlgo's AI draws radiant floor heating sections with PEX loop layouts to EN 1264.

Founder of HeatAlgo, author of the calculation engine to EN 12831 and EN 1264

Ask Algo to draw radiant floor heating sections from your plan. It prepares a saved draft with the PEX tubing layout inside each section. Review it on the exact story, correct it with Algo or on the canvas, then apply your selection. Sections you already have stay in place.

The whole run is on video - three minutes from an uploaded plan to a finished report. The video shows the metric app; the same steps are written out below.

Prefer to draw the sections yourself? The same project, drawn from scratch, is in the second recording.

1. Choose the floor plan

Ask Algo to draw the radiant floor sections. Name the attached file as the floor plan, or upload it in the radiant floor heating module ("Underfloor heating" in the app). The canvas keeps its page picker for PDF and CAD files.

2. Set the scale

Reliable vector dimensions can set the scale automatically. Otherwise Algo opens the calibration: mark a distance you know and type it - in feet on an imperial account, in centimeters on a metric one. The saved request picks up again afterward.

3. Follow the generation

Algo shows the progress of the saved request. You can leave the conversation and come back to the same draft.

4. Review and correct

Review the sections and the tubing inside them on the plan. Move or reshape an outline, assign its room, adjust the structural exclusions, or ask Algo for a correction. Each section has its own checkbox. Overlapping proposals start unchecked; you can include them.

5. Apply the selected sections

Apply saves exactly the sections you selected and keeps the existing ones. Areas still missing stay marked. A new Apply has no Undo; you can edit or delete the saved sections by hand.

6. Finish the radiant floor design

Place the manifold, draw its supply routes and adjust the design settings - water temperatures, on-center spacing, floor covering - with the module's usual tools. Then check each room's floor output against its heat loss and each loop's length.

The draft does not connect the loops to the manifold, and it does not replace your own review of the design. Older generation receipts that already offered Undo keep their original window.

Frequently asked questions

Does the draft expire?

No. There is no inactivity timeout. The draft stays until you apply or discard it. Ordinary editing in the radiant floor module is locked while it is open; corrections to the draft and any calibration it needs stay available.

What does it cost?

One generation per account is free. The first read of a plan spends it, not Apply: a few corrections and retries of that draft ride on it, and applying the draft costs nothing more. A read that produces no proposal, or a request discarded before any read, gives it back; a draft previewed and discarded, or a read stopped once it has started, does not. Later generations need access to the project, a subscription or a credit. One generation runs at a time per account, and a limit on how often you can start one applies.

What if some areas cannot be drawn?

Usable sections and unresolved outlines are shown separately. Retry or correct the draft, draw a missing section yourself, or apply part of the selection. Apply never quietly drops a section you selected.

Which files can I use?

The radiant floor canvas takes PDF, PNG, JPG, HEIC, DWG and DXF with its page picker. Naming a file as the plan straight from Algo's full workspace works for a single-page PDF or an image; use the canvas picker for other files.

Will the draft show feet and inches?

On an imperial account, yes: the module shows lengths in feet and inches, areas in ft² and heat in Btu/h, and the scale is typed in feet. The calculation underneath stays metric, to EN 1264, and the PDF report prints in metric units for now.
